Following a home assessment, Handicare surveyors will recommend the most suitable stairlift for your needs. Many of our lifts include ergonomic seating, customisable features, and tailored rail options to ensure comfort, safety, and a perfect fit for your home. You can explore the full range here.
When the engineers from Handicare visit your home, they will be able to offer expert advice on which stairlift seat is suitable for you. You can purchase seats in different colours, so you can pick one that fits in with the décor of your home. Many models also have foldaway seats, so that when you are not using a stairlift, they are not taking up much space or affecting other people walking up and down the stairs. With a perch stairlift, there is a perch seat, and these models allow passengers to remain in an almost upright position, which is perfect for people who struggle to get from a seated position to a standing one.
Stairlifts are fitted directly to the staircase rather than the wall. A rail is securely attached to the stair treads using brackets, so no major structural work is needed. Most straight stairlifts can be installed within a few hours by a qualified engineer, with minimal disruption to your home. Once fitted, the engineer will test the lift thoroughly and show you how to use it safely. Read more about the stairlift installation process and FAQs here.
Installation time depends on the type of stairlift. A straight stairlift can usually be installed within a few hours. Curved stairlifts, which are made to measure, may take a little longer but are typically completed within half a day. Once installed, the engineer will carry out full safety checks and testing. They will then provide a complete demonstration, showing you how to operate the stairlift, use the safety features, and clean and maintain it properly. You’ll have the opportunity to ask any questions to ensure you feel confident before they leave.
All stairlifts are manufactured by Handicare. Handicare is a well-respected, reputable manufacturer that has been supplying lifting solutions worldwide for over 130 years. As Age Co is 100% owned by Age UK, with profits donated to the charity, each purchase of a stairlift supports Age UK’s vital work.

It’s a common misconception that stairlifts are installed on a wall. This is not the case. The stairlift is installed on the staircase itself. The technical surveyor will recommend which side of the stairs will be the most convenient for the stairlift to be installed during the home visit.
